Paul Scott Goodman and Miriam Gordon’s ROOMS: A ROCK ROMANCE

The esteemed authors of TRW’s hot new acquisition, ROOMS: A ROCK ROMANCE, prefer to let the reviews do the talking about their soaring musical. The Associated Press wrote: “ROOMS is delightful, clever and poignant!Fun musical theater rock ‘n’ roll with an edge, youthful romance and fresh comedy! Goodman’s lively, narrative-infused score manages to be lyrical, clever and even poignant — all without taking itself too seriously.” Paul Scott Goodman(Book, Lyrics and Music)and Miriam Gordon (Book) have crafted a cutting-edge show that offers theatre producers a chance to get a new audience through their doors and in their seats who are looking for a new reason to attend the theatre.

The tale begins in late 1970’s Glasgow where Monica, an ambitious singer/songwriter meets Ian, a reclusive rocker. The two quickly become entangled creatively and romantically. Their music takes them first to London and ultimately to New York City, where they discover the vibrant new music scene and create an intimate partnership, their love deepening while their personalities drive them apart. A five-piece rock band accompanies these two characters as they search for the balance between ambition and happiness.

After a hugely successful run at the NYC’s New World Stages, ROOMS: A ROCK ROMANCE is now premiering at major regional theatres around the country and is poised to become a staple of the underground theatre scenes in cities around the world. This brilliant musical takes the best of rock n’ roll and mixes it with a searing story that speaks to an audience that has been waiting for a show that relates to their life and time.

The author’s notes on casting illuminate the showcase roles that are star turns for the actors lucky enough to get a chance to play Monica and Ian:   MONICA: Early 20’s.  Monica is a force of nature.  Her passion draws people towards her whims.  She is not savvy, sophisticated or street-smart, but she is driven.  Her boundless energy makes her fluid and quick in movement, not earthbound.  She is very attractive but not necessarily beautiful, and neither too thin nor overweight.  She has a true talent for singing and a way with words; whatever she lacks in talent, she makes-up for in personality.  She is an entertainer. She dresses with fun and flair.  Her favorite performers are Bette Midler, Anthony Newley, Elton John, and of course, Barbra Streisand. IAN: Early 20’s.  Ian’s outwardly confident and physically loose demeanor and swagger mask many insecurities.  He may be cocky, sarcastic and cynical on the surface, but inside he is extremely vulnerable and frightened.  Handsome, precocious, talented, witty, charming, he is also edgy, dark, troubled and brooding.  He is serious about his music.  He dresses daily in trademark black jeans.  His favorite performers are Springsteen, Dylan, McCartney, and of course, John Lennon.
