The Utah Theatre Association’s 2011 conference featured a dazzling, daring, and delightful production of Joe DiPietro’s juke box giant, ALL SHOOK UP. TRW’s Director of Licensing Jim Hoare was there and networked with the hundreds of teachers, directors and students gathered on the campus of Dixie State College in St. George. This was TRW’s first time at the conference, the 34th annual gathering of the association, this year titled, “Making a Scene.”
Tuacahn School for the Performing Arts’ ALL SHOOK UP was the toast of the festival, playing two performances on the mainstage. According to the directors at Tuacahn, Jan and Andy Hunsaker, their production ran Jan. 22 – 29, and the statewide festival was a wonderful marketing opportunity. Their production featured a cast of 75 and really got the conference rocking!
Candy Fowler, wife of Tuacahn Principal Bill Fowler said, “I loved the show. What I saw come out of those kids, on a first run-through, is amazing. The choral numbers are the best I’ve heard…I love what I saw—can’t wait for the kids to have their chance to shine. I am thrilled for Tuacahn High School!”
And Ryan Anderson, Tuacahn’s Vice Principal commented, “Great high school show! Never loses momentum. Our kids are loving the music of this show!”
The stellar production caught the attention of Tony Award winning author Joe DiPietro, who sent his good wishes to the cast and crew of Tuacahn H.S., saying, “I want to wish you the very best of luck in your production of my show, ALL SHOOK UP. It’s a show that has entertained people all over the world, and I’m thrilled that you’re now part of this theatrical tradition,” DiPietro said. “ALL SHOOK UP is about the seemingly
magical power of music – how a song can get inside you and transform you and make you feel things you’ve never felt before. Elvis often said that he primarily made his music to bring joy to people, and ALL SHOOK UP was created with the same goal in mind. So I hope you all go out on stage, have a blast, and…blow the audience away. And I’ll be sending you all the good vibes I can! Rock on, Tuacahn!” Dipietro, currently represented in NYC with Tony Award winner MEMPHIS, has been gratified to see so many amazing productions of ALL SHOOK UP since it played Broadway in 2006.
