Game Show

Game Show

GAME SHOW is now at TRW Plays!

Set during a “live broadcast” of a fictional, long-running TV game show, GAME SHOW places the theater audience in the role of the TV studio audience, in which members are picked as the contestants to play the trivia-based game and win actual prizes. In addition to watching and playing during the “broadcast” – where anything can and does happen – the audience also witnesses all the backstage, back-stabbing antics “behind the scenes” that go on during the “commercial breaks” of GAME SHOW.

The audience arrives thinking it has wandered into a television studio rather than a theatre. “Applause” signs and cameras can be seen, crew voices are heard live and over the sound system as busy pre-show traffic prepares the set, featuring spots at center stage for four contestants. As soon as the audience is settled, a warm-up man named Steve Fox comes out to encourage everyone to have a good time, and to make them understand that GAME SHOW is about to air LIVE. Moving throughout the audience, Steve talks with some audience members and auditions others to read the introduction for GAME SHOW star and host, Troy Richards. Among those moving behind the cameras are Ellen Ryan, the show’s producer, Johnny Wilderman, a production assistant with a sharp memory, and two veteran cameramen named Joe and Gerry.

Once the “live” television show begins, an audience member announces the show, Troy enters, and the first four volunteers from the audience are chosen to play for prizes. But tonight’s show takes an unexpected turn. Troy has an important announcement to make. Although Game Show has been a top-rated television show for 15 years, Troy shocks the audience (as well as the producers and crew) by announcing that this will be his final season. At this point, the “game” in GAME SHOW begins. Some questions are quite easy, while others are intended to stump most of the audience. But all of the questions are fun and entertaining. The winner of Round I moves to The Winner’s Circle to await the playoff. Then GAME SHOW cuts to its first commercial break.

When we get to the first commercial break, many of the audience members are so involved in the quiz program they have forgotten that there is a play still to be revealed. During the commercial break the drama begins. Was Troy’s announcement a tactic to get more money out of the network? Was Ellen really surprised by Troy’s on-air resignation? Can Steve be trusted? Why do the cameramen have a hidden video camera? Is Johnny really as naïve as he seems? There are many soap-opera like plot twists in GAME SHOW still to be revealed. The rest of the 90-minute show follows the same pattern: a round of the quiz program interspersed with political maneuverings, seduction and betrayal during the commercial breaks. To offer anymore information at this time will ruin many surprises.

Who’s Who at America’s Favorite and Longest-Running TV Game Show:

From coast to coast and around the world, everyone knows and loves Troy Richards, America’s favorite TV game show host.  But for those unfamiliar with the behind-the-scenes members of the GAME SHOW family, we also offer an exclusive peek at some of the important people that make America’s favorite TV game show happen every day:

TROY RICHARDS (Your Host) is one of the best-known personalities on television today, having hosted GAME SHOW for the past 15 years.  He is now happily married to Stephanie Brooks, a former flight attendant, and they have three daughters (from one of his previous marriages): Alexa, Tiffany and Tricia.  Prior to becoming America’s favorite TV game show host, Troy spent 10 years portraying Dr. Vance Vanderbilt on DAYS OF OUR LIVES, for which he was nominated for 6 Daytime Emmy Awards.  Troy credits his GAME SHOW popularity to his dear friend and mentor, former GAME SHOW host Clay Phillips, whose mysterious and untimely demise will be featured on an upcoming episode of E! Entertainment’s MYSTERIES AND SCANDALS.

TYLER SCOTT (Executive Producer) has been the Executive Producer of GAME SHOW for the past 15 years.  He started in the business as personal assistant to Merv Griffin and his producing credits include WHEEL OF FORTUNE and JEOPARDY.  In his spare time, Tyler directs community theater productions, most recently newly-conceived productions of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF and THE MUSIC MAN, both blessed to have his wife Connie Scott as leading lady.  Tyler resides in Beverly Hills with the multi-talented Mrs. Scott and their two beautiful children.

CLIFF ANDREWS (Director) is pleased to have recently joined GAME SHOW after supervising the original pilot episode of WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE? for ABC.  Cliff’s directing credits include LOVE CONNECTION and FAMILY FEUD and is currently pitching the networks on a new movie of the week, based on the true story of an anorexic twin looking for her Olympic-gymnast, sex-changed, sister/brother.

ELLEN RYAN (Line Producer) started her career as an actress on Broadway in the chorus of the legendary musical, MARILYN: AN AMERICAN FABLE.  Upon relocating to Hollywood after the close of the show, Ellen landed a job as second assistant producer on the hit show TJ HOOKER.  Quickly rising the network corporate ladder, Ellen’s television producing credits include:  DAYS OF OUR LIVES (where she first worked with Troy Richards), MELROSE PLACE, SUNSET BEACH and PASSIONS.  Her shows have collectively been nominated for a total of 16 Emmy Awards, but no wins – yet.

STEVE FOX (Assistant Producer and Warm-up Man) has entertained audiences from coast to coast in all of the nation’s top comedy clubs.  He has been warming-up the audiences of GAME SHOW for the past four seasons.  Steve would like to ask his friends David Letterman and Jay Leno to stop stealing his material!

GERRY SMITH (Camera #1) enjoys sports and cooking and is a TV sitcom trivia expert.  He dedicates his work on GAME SHOW to the legendary Ann B. Davis and all things Brady.  Ladies, he is single.

JOE MAGUIRE (Camera #2) has been a proud member of IATSE for 25 years.  One of the original cameramen on THE NEWLYWED GAME, he has worked on over 150 TV shows, films and documentaries.  In his spare time, Joe can be found at Off-Track Betting.  Joe lives in Hoboken, NJ with his two dogs (and his wife).

JOHNNY WILDERMAN (Production Assistant) has always dreamed of working on a TV game show.  He’s spent his life hanging around network sound stages, and most recently interned on MTV’s THE REAL WORLD – New Orleans. Johnny has been with GAME SHOW for two seasons and dreams of one day seeing his name in lights. He studies acting online at The Chuck Barris Institute.

A CD containing the GAME SHOW Theme Song and all SFX is included.
