TRW’s delightfully daffy LUCKY DUCK is landing in NYC after a cross-country migration from its hugely successful production at The Coterie Theatre in Kansas City, MO. And lucky for us here at the TRW World Headquarters, the show will be alighting at The New Victory Theatre, just around the corner! And the Broadway press can’t get enough of the musical marvel that re-tells the Ugly Duckling tale in a fresh, new way. “Dreamgirls’ Henry Krieger Brings Youth-Aimed Lucky Duck to New York!” says Broadway.com‘s Broadway Buzz. And BroadwayWorld.com writes, “New Victory Theater to Present NY Premiere Henry Krieger, Bill Russell and Jeffrey Hatcher’s LUCKY DUCK!” And TheaterMania.com announced much anticipated casting for the plucky tuner: “Seth Golay, Jennie Greenberry, Katie Karel, and More Set for Lucky Duck at New Victory!”

LUCKY DUCK is the story of duckling Serena, who runs away from her rustic barnyard to pursue her dreams in New Duck City. Her adventures with a bunch of zany characters, including Prince Drake, Galinda (“the most fashionable Goose in the City”) and Wolf, a talent agent and reformed meat-eater (or is he?), take her from high-fashion runways to perilous performing opportunities. Even the happy ending is not exactly by the storybook. See, Serena, the ugliest duck in the bardyard, yearns to be a great singing diva, and she overcomes hilarious avian trials and tribulations in this wacky, ultra-modern adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Ugly Duckling.”

Color PurpleNew York, NY, 2-27-2012:

Theatrical Rights Worldwide (TRW) is proud to announce the immediate availability of Stock & Amateur rights for THE COLOR PURPLE. TRW is the exclusive representative of THE COLOR PURPLE’s musical adaptation, which was nominated for eleven Tony® Awards and played 910 performances in its two and a half year run on Broadway.

Now, theatre organizations, schools, choirs and performing arts groups of all kinds can present this inspiring family saga that tells the unforgettable story of a woman who—through love—finds the strength to triumph over adversity and discover her unique voice in the world.

After a hugely successful four year national tour, this glorious musical journey is poised to change the landscape of school and community theatre forever. THE COLOR PURPLE’s musical incarnation, adapted from Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel (and the popular 1985 Steven Spielberg film) spotlights Celie, a downtrodden young woman whose personal awakening over the course of 40 years forms the arc of this epic story.

With a joyous score featuring jazz, ragtime, gospel, African music and blues, THE COLOR PURPLE is a story of hope, a testament to the healing power of love and a celebration of life. With a book by Marsha Norman and music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray, THE COLOR PURPLE premiered at the Alliance Theatre Company in Atlanta, Georgia and opened on Broadway on November 1, 2005. Turning the much loved book and film into a musical was a formidable task.

The novel’s author, the esteemed Alice Walker, in an interview shortly before THE COLOR PURPLE’s opening, discussed her feelings about the team musicalizing her uber-popular book for the Broadway stage: “We have a feeling of mutual respect. I knew they were about to embark on something huge, and it would take them to some crevices and corners of the human psyche that maybe they were not thinking of going to. And I wanted to offer what support I could,” Walker said. “So, when we met, I remember it as a time of us sitting around, and many questions arising. I remember encouraging them to have faith in the characters themselves, that they all have a reason for their behavior.”
