It’s CURTAINS for the Landor: U.K. Theatre Scores with Killer Curtains!
July 31, 2012 / Posted by TRW
The Landor Theatre is located on the first floor of The Landor Pub in Clapham, South London and seats an audience of up to 60 people comfortably, who all enjoy an intimate and friendly experience – within 3 rows of the performance! The Landor’s reputation for delivering top-quality professional theatre in a smaller venue is unequaled in London’s world-class theatre scene. Their just opened production of Kander & Ebbs Broadway smash CURTAINS is earning rave reviews from the U.K. press and is providing a super opportunity for British TRW customers to check out this fantastic book musical.
“The audience is awestricken in close-proximity to the infectious excitement of the ensemble throughout the performance at the Landor. This high-spirited intimate production could brighten the darkest of days with its fearless enthusiasm…” This glowing review is from TheFourthWallMagazine.com’s Danielle McNally, who “finds the Landor once again proves it deserves its burgeoning reputation as London’s premier producing house for musicals.” And from TheUpcoming.co.uk, this praise: “Curtains is knowing of its provenance, a loving parody of all things theatrical and retrospective. A smash hit on Broadway, this is the first professional European performance of Curtains, and marks the professional debut of several of the troupe who get to play alongside seasoned musical performers. It is only at the Langdon for six weeks, and the venue is small, so remind yourself or discover why you love theatre by getting to see this treat of a show.”
CURTAINS is set in the brassy, bright, and promising year of 1959. Boston’s Colonial Theatre is host to the opening night performance of a new musical. When the leading lady mysteriously dies on stage the entire cast & crew are suspects. Enter a local detective, who just happens to be a musical theatre fan! TRW is proud to represent this great Broadway show in our catalogue of blockbuster titles.

Up, up, and away in a Musical lawn chair? USA Today Examines Lawnchair Man Phenomenon!
July 17, 2012 / Posted by TRW
The thought of attaching some balloons to your lawnchair and flying away was once the legend of just a few, strange folks out there who dreamed of soaring above their mundane existences. No more. According to a new USA Today article, the Lawnchair Flight Phenomenon is growing!
Over the weekend, July 13-14, a pair of lawnchair aviators took off from their home of Bend, Oregon. According to USA TODAY, about six hours into their flight, Kent Couch and Fareed Lafta started to descend from an altitude of 10,000 feet because of the weather.
About 90 volunteers and several hundred onlookers counted down and then cheered as the pair lifted off from Couch’s Shell gas station. The duo safely cleared a two-story motel, a coffee stand and a light post.
“The interesting thing is, anybody can do this,” Couch, the veteran of several lawn chair balloon flights, said before the flight. “They don’t have to sit on the couch thinking, ‘I should have done it.’ They can do it.”
Is Kent Couch the subject of the bright, brilliant, beautiful TRW musical FLIGHT OF THE LAWNCHAIR MAN? Just who is the subject of the musical is…is the subject of some mystery! The show’s plot follows the quiet, suburban life of the fictional, (or is he!?) Jerry Gorman. When it all becomes too much to bear, Jerry attaches four hundred helium balloons to a backyard lawnchair and takes to the sky. Jerry meets a slew of very colorful characters and perhaps himself on this uplifting musical journey.
The musical’s subject has now become the stuff of real life once again, with Kent Couch in the pilot’s seat, this time with a patriotic co-pilot. Fareed Lafta, a mountain climber and sky diver, said he had shared Couch’s childhood dream of floating like a cloud. He sent Couch an email two winters ago after reading accounts of Couch’s earlier flights. He had a wish to use the flight to raise awareness of a subject he is passionate about. “I want to inspire Iraqis and say we need to defeat terrorists,” Lafta said. “We don’t need just an Army. We need ideology and to just have fun.”
The USA Today story relates that volunteers filled 350 5-foot diameter red, white, blue and black balloons with helium and tied them to Couch’s homemade tandem lawn chair rig. The balloons were arranged in bunches to represent the colors of the U.S. and Iraqi flags. An American flag flew from the bottom of the framework supporting the chairs. Just before liftoff, they had to ask children in the crowd to return four balloons to provide extra lift. And, they were off, albeit for a less successful flight than they had hoped, due to thunderstorms early in their trek. Click here to read the whole story in the USA TODAY.
The Lawnchair Flight thing was an little more than an urban myth when Hal Prince, took to the helm of the Robert Lindsay Nassif (composer-lyricist) and Peter Ullian (librettist) vehicle in 2000 as one of a trio of musical one-acts packaged as 3hree. Prince, the multiple Tony Award-winning producer and director who revolutionized Musical Theatre with his stagings of Cabaret, Company, Follies, Evita, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Phantom of the Opera and more, directed his third of the musical — which premiered at Prince Music Theater in Philadelphia in 2000 and played the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles in 2001 — and then commissioned the expanded version of The Flight of the Lawnchair Man. Theatrical Rights Worldwide development staff have been fans of the show since its 2004 showcase at the National Alliance for Musical Theatre in New York City. It joined the TRW catalog in 2006.
FLIGHT OF THE LAWNCHAIR MAN is a delightful musical that can play to any audience on your season. Jerry Gorman’s plight appeals to every one of us at some level, especially to a ticket buyers feeling the pinch of rough economic times. Jerry Gorman is a hero of sorts for times like these, and his story is inspiring. TRW invites you to enjoy a 50% discount on a Perusal Copy of FLIGHT OF THE LAWNCHAIR MAN!

Go-Go Beach is ON FIRE: Four Featured Productions Hit the Stage for the Summer of 2012!
July 6, 2012 / Posted by TRW
GO-GO BEACH is a hot pop-musical treasure trove of great original 60′s styled rock grooves set to an irresistible summer love story.
The show takes place at…GO-GO BEACH! Duh! It’s the biggest weekend of the summer for the gang at the beach, with plans for a surfing race and the annual luau. Surfer Woody’s carefree and innocent California life is everything a boy could want: his future is set with the cutest girl on the beach, he’s got a great bunch of friends, and he has never wiped out. But when his old surfing pal Bulldog comes back from the emerging flower power scene in San Francisco, Woody’s eyes are opened to a new perspective and he begins to question his seemingly perfect world. Things get really complicated when he falls for a runaway teen pop star… and Woody is forced to face his truth and discover the real meaning of life.
The show was a runaway hit at the New York Musical Theatre Festival, and it is easy to see why. GGB has all the brilliantly over-the-top cult movie nods, but there’s more to this hip little show than that. After the NYMF production, authors John Wimbs, Michael Shaieb, Brent Lord wrote, “GO-GO BEACH is a sexy ‘60’s pop fantasy with killer songs and great dance numbers that is a thrilling showcase for amazing young talent. But at its core, it’s a story about empowerment and love, and the value of true friendship. It carries a gentle message of peace, and has a heart big enough to transform audiences… leaving them with a deeper emotional experience than they might expect.”
Let’s look at some upcoming GO-GOs around the globe:
Produced in partnership with the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center, as part of the Festival of New American Musicals, GO-GO BEACH is set to play a four performance stint at the PAC’s Black Box Theatre on the College of the Canyons campus in Santa Clarita, CA. Their production describes the story as a, “new pop musical fable inspired by the wildly popular beach party movies of the 1960s. It’s a coming-of-age story about a surfer who gets into trouble with his girlfriend when he falls for a runaway teen pop star… and the flower child who helps him get back in touch with the waves.” The show runs July 26-29.
The Play Conservatory in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is dedicated to providing Theatre Arts education for kids. Their production of GO-GO BEACH goes up in just four weeks of rehearsal, modeling a professional summer stock company! Rehearsals happen at New Mexico Youth Symphony space and they have awesome workshops for kids that include classes in yoga and nutrition. The PLAY Conservatory production of GGB has performances on Aug 3-12 at South Broadway Cultural Center, 1025 Broadway SE, Albuquerque. Click here for tickets and information.
August 4-5 the amazing French Woods Festival in Hancock, NY will present GO-GO BEACH as a part of their legendary summer performing arts camp. French Woods is known for their incredibly talented kids, as well as a top-notch professional theatre staff. Their production is sure to be a knock-out. Click here for more information on the French Woods Festival.
And, we look forward to updates from our friends in Australia, on the upcoming Mitchell Shire Council show in Broadford, Victoria, September 7-16, 2012. A show set on the beach?? What would they know about that in Australia?! Should be a killer production!
