Updates about TRW and our musicals
Theatrical Rights Worldwide (TRW) is proud to announce the release of the new RING OF FIRE SMALL CAST EDITION. RING OF FIRE has had a remarkable journey from Broadway to theaters across the world. Recently, the show received a new, re-defining production at the Milwaukee Rep by original ROF creator Richard Maltby, Jr. The new, streamlined song showcase features a cast of five actor/musicians. The remarkable story of Johnny Cash and his music is searing and arcs with an exhilarating concert experience that is unforgettable.
The five-piece version of RING OF FIRE is a more intimate edition of the original Broadway show. The five cast members can be the band as well, or theatre groups can put together a cast that fits their ensemble’s unique talents.
In our never-ending quest to offer world-class musical theatre to our TYA customers, TRW has developed a new musical adapted from Molly Shannon’s best-selling children’s book Tilly the Trickster. The just-finished tuner was presented in a private industry reading at Pearl Studios in New York City on March 1st. Featuring music and lyrics by Drew Fornarola (AWSOME ALLIE: FIRST KID ASTRONAUT) with book by Jeremy Dobrish (Eight Days Backwards, Curious George), TILLY THE TRICKSTER will soon light up stages worldwide, available exclusively from TRW.
The tale has a title character who, in author Shannon’s words, “is an imperfectly perfect role model,” who likes to play tricks. The story reminds us to “embrace the silliness and fun of life,” says Shannon.
The majority of the musicals in our catalogue were written for the Broadway stage, to be performed by professional actors in front of audiences expecting and accepting of a heightened level of language, nuance, subject matter and presentation. In essence, the Broadway production is a “destination experience” for those who attend.
Your school, community or regional theatre production is a “foundation experience,” and, no two foundations are built the same when factors including the age of the performers, the region of the country or the demography of the audience are considered. No successful theatre program can be built or survive without a solid foundation. We understand this and support it.
So how does the destination experience of the Broadway musical assimilate to the foundation experience at your theatre?
Theatrical Rights Worldwide (TRW) is proud to announce the immediate availability of Stock & Amateur rights for THE COLOR PURPLE. TRW is the exclusive representative of The Color Purple’s musical adaptation, which was nominated for eleven Tony® Awards and played 910 performances in its two and a half year run on Broadway.
Now, theatre organizations, schools, choirs and performing arts groups of all kinds can present this inspiring family saga that tells the unforgettable story of a woman who—through love—finds the strength to triumph over adversity and discover her unique voice in the world.
After a hugely successful four year national tour, this glorious musical journey is poised to change the landscape of school and community theatre forever.
Theatrical Rights Worldwide is proud to announce our latest Family Theatre acquisition: NO DOGS ALLOWED! This super cool new musical is based on the hugely popular children’s book by Sonia Manzano, perhaps better known as Maria from Sesame Street. Manzano adapted her own book and legendary composer Stephen Lawrence wrote the music, with renowned lyricist Billy Aronson completing the team. The show is Manzano’s semi-autobiographical tale of a young girl growing up in the Bronx and what happens on the day the family takes a trip to a state park. It’s a beautifully crafted, eloquently told story that speaks to families everywhere.
NO DOGS ALLOWED! features a tuneful, upbeat score by Stephen Lawrence. Stephen has composed over 250 songs and scores for Sesame Street resulting in three Emmy awards…
I’ve just returned from my energizing, wonderful and successful trip to New Zealand and Australia. As we talked about in my first blog post, I attended the 50th anniversary conference of Musical Theatre New Zealand where over 350 artistic and managing directors representing 80 societies came to Auckland for three days of meetings, workshops and events. The goal of Musical Theatre NZ is to foster and encourage the development of, and commitment to, the highest standards by community theatres, including standards of excellence for production, health and safety, management, governance, community relations and service. Throughout the conference the importance of, and belief in, this mission statement was brilliantly carried out and demonstrated by everyone.
Welcome to the inaugural article here at Spiegel’s Spiel, a place at TheatricalRights.com where I can share my thoughts and plans with you, our valued customers, and you can give feedback to me on your theatre organization’s activities. Through this interaction you can help keep TRW at the forefront of theatrical licensing. I have always very much valued our customers input throughout my many years in the business.
Next week I travel to Auckland, where I will deliver the keynote speech at the New Zealand Musical Theatre Conference. Attended by artistic and managing directors, this year will mark their 50th anniversary as an association serving the needs of community theatres in their territory. It’s a great honor and I’m the first foreigner to have this privilege.
